Blog Award and Happy 4th

One of my favorite sayings is....... better late than never.  However, when someone awards you with a blog award back on the 26th of April and you don't do anything about it for a couple months, the 'better late than never' saying usually can be tossed out the window for the apparent reason that it took nearly two and a half months to post about the blog award rather than posting about it in a few days.  In other words, the saying is practically irrelevant because it took me so long to post about it.  But, it still stands true, so without further ado............................................... I was awarded 'The Versatile Blogger" blog award from Anna.

Thank you so very much Anna and sorry it took so long to post about this. :-/  Not only do I have to post about it, but I have to list seven things about myself.  In that case, here we go....

1) I won a Fear Factor contest before and came in third place one other time (not on the actual tv show, but at our former church's Fallfest :).

2) I am a theology nerd or geek..... whatever you want to call it.  I will talk with anybody for hours about this one subject.

3) I absolutely love John Piper (my favorite pastor to quote from).

4) One of my newest hobbies is strength-training.  I usually was a biker/runner before (still am), a cardio type guy, but I am beginning to gain more upper body weight. 

5) My fav. two verses in the Bible are 1 Corinthians 2:2 and Ephesians 2:4, but my fav. two books in the Bible are John and Philippians.

6) I have three younger sisters and two of them are below the age of 4.  The other is 20.  If you want to visit her blog, check it out here.

7) Last but not least, my birthday is in four days---- another year will bite the dust fairly soon.  :)

And, with all that said, Happy 4th of July to everybody.  Hope you all have a safe Independence Day full of God's majestic grace-filled blessings.  May God bless America----- the greatest nation on God's green earth.

Tyranny Eve - URGENT!!!!!

Josh says, "This inspiring video and call to action was found earlier today by my Momma. Please take the time to listen to this. Dad and I were ready to go to Washington D.C tonight but there were no flights and there is not enough time to drive in a vehicle...I encourage any of you who listen to this video to go! Understandably, you may not be able to attend(like us), but the least we can do, is pray. And pray we will.
I would encourage you from the bottom of my heart to PLEASE pray tomorrow between 6-10am, that the Government Health Care bill will not be passed. Also, I have a vision of Christians all across the USA praying for our prosperity of our country and government. Can't you see Christians rising up all around and crying out to God together? Please post this video on your blog, and pass on the vision to all your followers and the people that read your blog between now and 6 am tomorrow. Please pray with me and spread the vision!

Memorial Service: You're Invited

I came across this story by e-mail from a very good friend of mine. It is a great true story written by Joe Galloway that deserves attention. It is about a WW2 Hero. Here it is:

We're hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services.

I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell "Shifty" Powers.

Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them.

I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle", the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat.

Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made.

Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until sometime in 1945 . . . " at which point my heart skipped.

At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . do you know where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped.

I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know what D-Day was. At that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland , into Arnhem " I wa s standing with a genuine war hero . . . . and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day.

I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France , and he said "Yes. And it's real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say.

I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach, while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach.

He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and still care is enough to make an old man very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this.

Shifty died on June 17 after fighting cancer.

There was no parade.

No big event in Staples Center .

No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage.

No weeping fans on television.

And that's not right.

Let's give Shifty his own Memorial Service, online, in our own quiet way.

Especially to the veterans.

Rest in peace, Shifty.

Francis Scott Key composed the national anthem when he was aboard a ship as British troops were invading Fort McHenry. At the fort, the American flag was still standing, swaying beautifully in the breeze, and that prompted Francis Scott Key to compose this beautiful song.

Our troops have fought wearily and persevered through thick and thin in defense of this country that they so love. Honor them today and give them thanks for the excellent job that they have done. Whether you are for the war in Iraq or not, our troops deserve our utmost gratitude and thankfulness. Freedom is not free and that has been proven through the many countless battles our troops have fought to preserve our freedom. THANK YOU MEN AND WOMEN FOR SERVING OUR COUNTRY FAITHFULLY AND GRACIOUSLY.
