An Inspiring LOTR's Quote

With what I have been going through lately, this quote is one of those quotes that I needed to hear even though it came from a movie.  The place from where I pulled this quote in the movie was from a conversation between Gandalf and Frodo, in the Fellowship of the Ring, when the Fellowship was stuck in the Mines of Moria.  If you have watched the trilogy, in this case the first movie, you know what has already taken place.  The power of the ring is beginning to take its toll on Frodo despite the limited amount of time of which he has had possession of the ring.  As the trilogy continues though, you begin to see the ring controlling more of Frodo even to the point of where he almost loses his friend Sam.  This is the path or otherwise the cup that was given to Frodo.  The cup that would see the salvation of all Middle Earth or the doom of all Middle Earth.  This fate of the cup, which is the burden of carrying the one ring, rests in his hands.  Will he persevere to the end?  Will he see the salvation of Middle Earth come to pass?  He had his doubts especially when it came to the point of wondering why this burden was brought upon him.   Now, let's listen into Frodo's statement like question and Gandalf's reply in one of the most critical moments of the trilogy.....

Frodo: "I wish the ring had never come to me.  I wish none of this had happened."

Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide.  All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.  There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the forces of evil.  Bilbo was meant to find the ring in which case you also were meant to have it.  And that is an encouraging thought."

The same is with the Christian life.  You and I have been given time by God to be used for His glory.  What are we doing with that time?  What are we doing with the circumstances that He has given us?  What are we doing with the trials that have been placed in our path?  We only have one life.  A life that has the capability of changing the world or a life that has the capability of being wasted away on the foolish things of the world.  It is your choice.  What are you going to do with the time that is given to you?

Sola Deo Gloria!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing this amazing blogpost.

Most of the time, when people are facing difficult times they decide to mope around and waste their time that should be used to God's glory. When, like you said, our time was given to us for a reason and we need to use it wisely.

Thanks again,

In Christ,
Paul

I'm not very firmiliar with LOTR or any of his books for that matter, but I'm working on it. Starting with The Hobbit and another book that's not very popular, I can't recall the name right now. For school -- so yea. :))) Hopefully soon I'll be posting quotes as well!

I can really empathize with Frodo's plight. As you know, I have my own challenge - my own cup - that I would gladly throw into the fires of Mordor! I wouldn't hesitate; but others would. I've known people to hold their pain & trials close to them like a "precious." They relish the attention & sympathy.

The only thing I relish about my afflictions are those things that can help others & glorify God.

I've been asked before what I do with myself when I'm down - they often see their own "down time" as useless - we can't even read our Bibles during the worst of times...

I've learned to be thankful for what I do have, rather than what i do not - I start at my toes & go up from there; then, what an honor - I get to pray for others (for you :)!!! Useless? I think not. Those prayers are blessings! Besides, I'll be healed for all eternity one day!

My own personal LOTR quote (from The Fellowship of the Rings)?... “All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”

This was a very true and interesting post. I hadn't ever thought to apply that quote to our own lives, for some reason.. haha! But it is all so true.
Just recently, we attended a funeral for our 15 year old cousin who died in a freak accident. So sudden. So weird. Weird because he 'shouldn't' have died. He was only 15. Yet, his time was over. It just makes you realize how fleeting life is. At the funeral I was getting convicted of making sure I lived my life to God's Glory in the short time I have here, and your post just kind of helped to seal that.

Thank you for posting.

In Christ's Service,
Sarah

Thank you for sharing Joshua. Boy oh boy, that hit home. I needed that reminder. It's easy to get caught up in difficult circumstances and wish things were different. But they aren't and we have a choice as to what we will do and how we will act. Will we trust God and do what is right in His eyes?

Praying for you Joshua!

I love LOTR for just that reason -- such amazing and applicable quotes! That particular quote is so encouraging to me. It's so good to remember in the hard times that God has prepared our tasks for us ahead of time, and we need only to walk in them.

Exactly! Thanks so much for posting this Joshua. Another quote that came to mind, when I read the last paragraph, is from Nathan Hale: "I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country." Of course, he said "his country", but that can easily be replaced with "God".

These times we only need ask two questons.
"What does this mean?" and
"What am I to do with it".

We are more than conquerers and God gets the glory.
