Common Sense Question

If you could please give me your best answer to this question, I would be much obliged.  Here is the question:


You put some ice cubes in a glass, fill the glass with cold water, and then let the glass sit on a table.  Describe how the temperature of the water changes as time passes.  

This is a very significant question.  I know it is random and I picked it straight out of the blue.  However, I will explain the significance of this question after everyone has had a chance to answer it.  :)

First of all, the lukewarm (or possibly hot) water will gradually become colder and colder as the ice "does it's thing." After a time, however, the ice will melt and the water will become lukewarm.

I'm not really sure, but my guess would be that the ice would eventually all melt, and after that point the water would just get warmer and warmer.

Ok, here goes... I didn't actually "do" this, so maybe my answer doesn't count.. Still, I imagine that your water will get pretty cold, but the longer it sits, then it gets to room temperature...

The water would first get colder, then as the ice melted and the water sat there the water would slowly become room temperature.

Well...the water would get cooler until the ice melts. Once the ice melts eventually all the water regulates to room temperature.

The ice in the glass will slowly melt to room temperature (as will the water). Therefore, the ice becomes lukewarm like the water around it.

Global warming will cause all the water to evaporate very quickly and we'll all need stock up on more chap stick and hand cream because of the dryness.
