Psalm 139:13-14

Psalm 139:13-14 says, "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."

I am writing a paper on the debate between evolution and intelligent design and I have to share a few excerpts from a book that I have read and am beginning to re-read for my essay. The book is What Darwin Didn't Know, By: Geoffrey Simmons. Geoffrey Simmons is a well-known medical doctor in Oregon, who has studied the human body and the evolutionary theory for more than 40 years. His insight into how an intelligent designer had to have created the human body is absolutely fascinating. Sadly though in his book, he has no idea who that Intelligent Designer is. He gives astronomical evidence for an intelligent designer and he ends the claim of their being some type of Designer. It is a sad book at the end, but the evidence for the magnificent creation of the human body is nearly insurmountable. Here are a couple excerpts from his book:

"Everything that transpires within the body is controlled by the three billion base pairs (adenine, thymine, guanine, and cytosine - of DNA) that make up the 100,000 genes that form the 23 paired chromosomes within the nucleus of nearly every cell. The amount of information stored within a single nucleus is equal to a library of 1000 encyclopedias, each with 1000 pages. Multiply that by the 35 billion cells in the brain, not to mention the ten or more trillion cells in a single body, and the amount of information moving about the body in each second becomes astronomical. Yet if one could put all of the DNA coordinating the growth, development, and functioning of every human on earth into a single pile, it would weigh barely 50 grams. How could a particle smaller than dust have enough knowledge to, as it were, multiply into a trillion-room skyscraper--- and also know the color, shape, and size of every room, every worker who would ever be employed in it, and every speck of furniture, wiring, and plumbing? (This speck might even know the past, present, and future.) (What Darwin Didn't Know, Geoffrey Simmons, pg. 30)

Wait, there is more and I mean a lot more. That is who our God is though. Amazing, Astounding, Omniscient, He knows how many hairs are on your head, He knows every single part about you. I will end with this last excerpt.

"The interior of the human body is a much busier place than New York City, London, Mexico City, Tokyo, and Bombay combined. Ten to seventy-five trillion cells participate in more than a quadrillion purposeful chemical interactions each day that help us walk, breathe, think, sleep, procreate, see, hear, smell, feel, digest food, eliminate waste, write, read, talk, make red blood cells, remove dead cells, fight infections, behave, misbehave, absorb nutrients, transport oxygen, eliminate carbon dioxide, maintain balance, carry on dialogue, understand instructions, argue, and make complex decisions, just to name a few common activities. In addition, each of these processes has dozens--- and sometimes hundreds--- of smaller, interacting steps, checks, counterchecks, balances, and regulatory mechanisms. And further, all of these steps have smaller chemical substeps. In many ways the human body functions like an extremely well-organized blizzard of invisible chemical responses and rapidly-changing electrical impulses. The human brain is a convoluted continent swept by microscopic electrical hurricanes and chemical tidal waves that somehow make sense out of reality on a microsecond-by-microsecond basis. Darwin didn't have a clue how these mechanisms truly worked. For the most part, he didn't know they even existed. (What Darwin Didn't Know, Geoffrey Simmons, pg.16)

Praise Him!!! Soli Deo Gloria!

Thanks for sharing those excerpts, Joshua. Creationism is such an important topic in our society today, and one I have studied all too little. =( So thanks for writing about the subject and mentioning that book, and God bless you as you work on your paper! BTW, the blog redesign and new profile pic are very nice. =)

Joshua,
This was a great post and I thoroughly enjoyed it. How someone could not see any evidence for God, I know not. Even a single cell is beyond enough proof that there is a divine creator(God)and in no way could it, over millions of years evolve...

Truly, our God is an AWESOME God!

In Christ,
Josh

Elliot,
Thanks for all your kind words. Yes, the creation and evolution topic is important, but if you are not informed on it that is still ok. Praise God that He opened your eyes to see the truth of His divine Word and creation. His creation is absolutely gorgeous. You know what. I know very little about music and you seem to know a whole lot about music by how you commented on the Beethoven post. Each person's preferences are different. We were all uniquely created differently by a divine Creator. That is one other astounding evidential fact of a divine Creator.

Blessings to you Elliot,
Joshua :)

Josh,
I agree with everything that you said. I can't believe also with all the scientific technology that we have today; why someone doesn't believe in a divine Creator? We can look deep into the cell and find wonder after wonder after wonder after wonder..... I can keep on going. You are totally correct. Thank you brother.

Your brother in the faith,
Joshua :)

Great post! I love the topic of intelligent design and evolution. Of course, intelligent design doesn't mean all too much unless you know Who the Creator is.

In Him,
Courtney

Ps- Also, Icons of Evolution by Jonathon Wells and The Case for a Creator by Lee Stroble are very good books on the topic.
